I've been experimenting with Roo Code, a Visual Studio Code extension for agentic coding. So far, I'm really impressed with how straightforward it's been to get up and running.
The setup process was smooth, and connecting it to Amazon Bedrock using just an API key was surprisingly simple. I was able to start leveraging Bedrock's foundation models in my development workflow almost immediately.
What I'm enjoying most is how Roo Code makes it easy to create and manage autonomous agents for coding tasks. It's not just another AI assistant that gives suggestions - it actually helps automate more complex development workflows.
We have been using Claude Code quite a bit at work with great success. However I worry about tying myself completely to Anthropic, even though it's a strong product. I am hoping to one day have a completely local model up and running, with no internet or provider required.
